Beacon Bingo wheelchair gives Logan a new lease of life
Thanks to the joint fundraising efforts of customers and staff at Beacon Bingo Margate, nine year-old Logan Weller has been presented with a new powered wheelchair that will help him to gain more independence and join in with a host of family activities.
Beacon Bingo, which operates seven adult gaming centres across the country, is one of the main fundraisers for CHIPS, a charity set up on behalf of the casino and gaming industry, which aims to provide specialised powered wheelchairs for children with severe mobility problems.
Logan, who lives with his parents, Stephanie and Adrian, suffers from a seizure disorder. This lifelong condition makes him dependent on others for mobility as he couldn’t self-propel the manual wheelchair he previously relied on to get around.
Logan’s mum, Stephanie, said: “We are so grateful that we’ve being given this opportunity for Logan. He dreams of more independence and this wheelchair will turn that dream into a reality. He’ll be able to go out and about to different events within the community. It will really improve the lives of our whole family.”
Beacon Bingo Margate’s venue manager, Graeme Corner, said: “It’s such a proud moment to know that our fundraising efforts are going to make such a huge difference to Logan and his family’s life. He’s such a lovely, friendly boy who thoroughly deserves this wheelchair.”
Co-founder of the CHIPS charity Linda Lindsay said: “It is so important for CHIPS that our donors see the results of their hard work, and we try to ensure that all the recipients are local to where the funds have been raised. Cashino and parent company Praesepe have been amazing, and to date have donated £1 million allowing CHIPS to provide more than 120 wheelchairs up and down the country.”
In total CHIPS has raised more than £2.2 million to date and presented over 520 wheelchairs to children throughout the UK.
